Arsenal Host Wolverhampton Wanderers in Crucial Top-Flight Fixture

All eyes turn for a compelling Premier League contest as league leaders the Gunners entertain bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Emirates Stadium.

Starting Lineups

Mikel Arteta's side have made three changes following the team that suffered a narrow defeat at Aston Villa last weekend. William Saliba, the Swedish striker and the Brazilian winger all come into the starting eleven. Martin Ødegaard and the Spanish midfielder are named on the substitutes' bench, while Riccardo Calafiori is absent. Saliba is back after missing a run of games due to injury.

Wolves also have made three adjustments to their lineup following being soundly beaten 4-1 at home by United last time out. Matt Doherty, the Brazilian midfielder and Hwang Hee-chan come in. Ki-Jana Hoever and Jhon Arias are on the bench, while Jean‐Ricner Bellegarde misses out altogether.

Match Context

Good evening! Because, c’mon …

The table paints a clear story. Arsenal sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League, while their opponents prop up the league.

… however, even though this will be the 42nd occasion the top side have played the team at the foot of the division – winning 30 victories from 41, with seven draws – who are behind two of the four historical shocks? Why, Wolves, of course! So while the Arsenal manager will surely be expecting another victory, the Wolves boss must know that long shots occasionally succeed, and anything is possible. Kick-off is at 8pm GMT. The action is imminent!

(The other two last-over-first wins in the modern top-flight era are Oldham Athletic's 1-0 win over Manchester United in March 1993, and Spurs – yeah, a surprising one - beating Liverpool in November 2008.)
