The US president arrived in the UK preceding what marks his second state visit, an event labeled as unprecedented in recent diplomatic relations.

The president and his wife Melania touched down on Tuesday evening at Stansted Airport on Air Force One. The schedule includes events over the next two days, including being hosted by King Charles, military parades, and a potential flypast by the Red Arrows together with British and American F-35 jets.

Protests Erupt Against Trump’s Agenda and Rhetoric

Trump’s arrival has sparked criticism from various quarters in the UK, with the Stop Trump Coalition organizing a demonstration in Windsor on Tuesday and scheduling another public gathering in central London on Wednesday.

A leading official claimed the US president of fanning the flames of polarizing, radical politics across the globe in recent years.

The same individual asserted that the president’s deployment of the military in US cities and focus on of marginalized groups resembled tactics taken from the authoritarian’s handbook.

He emphasized that while preserving good relations with the US is practical, the UK must be willing to criticize a leader who advances harmful policies.

Official Greeting and Protest Scenes

After landing, Donald and Melania Trump were welcomed by American diplomatic representatives and a British lord-in-waiting representing the monarch. Yvette Cooper was one of those present to meet the president.

The Trumps then boarded Marine One, their official aircraft, which departed shortly following their arrival. They were expected to proceed to the US ambassador’s residence in Regent’s Park.

Meanwhile, around 70 demonstrators assembled outside Windsor Castle, holding signs and shouting phrases such as “No to Trump” and “he is unwanted in Britain”.

A protester commented, “It is necessary to show that we oppose what is happening in the world right now.”

Another individual voiced frustration at the government’s decision to extend such a lavish welcome, calling it “disgusting” and questioning whether Trump deserved such unprecedented treatment.

Royal Events and Armed Forces Participation

The royal couple are set to welcome the Trumps with a formal reception at Windsor Castle, featuring artillery honors fired at the same time in Windsor and at the Tower of London.

UK defense authorities confirmed that this would be the biggest guard of honour provided during a state visit, with about 1,300 armed forces members and 120 horses participating.

The occasion will also include a carriage procession to the castle, joined by the royal mounted regiment, and a military musical performance ceremony—the first time such an act has been staged for a state visit.

A lavish state banquet will feature performances by multiple ensembles, including the Duchess of Edinburgh’s String Orchestra and pipers from the a historic regiment.

Divided Opinions and Upcoming Plans

While many protested, some showed approval for the US president’s visit. One supporter stated that his presence could help in brokering global stability and strengthening global partnerships.

Another local admitted that while not protesting, they felt the public dissent represented the opinions of the most in the UK, stating that the state visit seemed designed to placate Trump rather than represent public sentiment.

Trump is scheduled to visit the official retreat of Keir Starmer on Thursday, with RAF personnel lining the route upon his arrival.
