Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Significant Air Traffic Control Outage
Flight operations have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial ATC system failure halted all operations.
All aircraft movements were stopped because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.
Some passengers reported being stuck in jets at the stand as the outage continued.
Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays
A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
However, considerable delays are expected to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.
Officials had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.
"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Root of the Disruption
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.
Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the terminal as residual delays are cleared.
