Marvel's Wonder Man Trailer Unveils Marvel's Most Self-Referential Series Ever

The Marvel studio has heard that audiences could be experiencing some superhero fatigue, so they've decided to incorporate that very concept into their upcoming superhero series.

Indeed, the first preview for Wonder Man has been released, and it promises a meta twist on the MCU.

The preview, which premiered on Oct. 10, also quietly moved the Wonder Man launch date back from its original late 2025 window into January 2026.

Why another superhero movie? Everyone is weary of superheroes. Why watch them in the theater? Wonder Man resonated with me on a deep level. There is an opportunity to shock audiences. To reinvent the entire genre of storytelling.

The interviewer responds: "Have you considered about the cast?"

The preview then transitions to series star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's viewing the conversation on his mobile device, and the trailer concludes.

What We Know About Wonder Man

We were previously aware that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the character Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who becomes a superhero (the hero Wonder Man).

The rest of the cast features Ben Kingsley returning as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (also known as Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's agent Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed coming back as DODC agent P. Cleary.

The Studio's Meta-Humor Strategy

We don't know much else about the plot of Wonder Man, but it's clear that the studio plans to poke some fun at itself.

In the wake of Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems like the production company is all in on meta-humor. Will this approach succeed without the celebrity appeal of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman? We'll have to wait and see.
