Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers Claim Initial Victories After Player Detentions
The Miami Heat scored eighty-six opening half points versus the Grizzlies
The Heat claimed a crushing 146 to 114 win over the Grizzlies in their initial NBA game after player Terry Rozier was detained over alleged unlawful gambling.
Portland Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also arrested as part of a sweeping FBI probe into illegal gambling. Both men contest the allegations.
But, the Miami team were not distracted as they scored eighty-six opening half scores to lead Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the largest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year existence.
Adebayo top-scored with twenty-four scores and later said Rozier had the team's full backing.

Portland additionally won their initial match since the arrests, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Chauncey's absence and guiding the squad to a decisive 139-119 win against the Warriors.
"We all had positive times with Billups and how he coached," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his family but we have a job to do."
League Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events
Addressing the arrests for the initial occasion, league head Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the past few days.
"There's nothing more important to the league and its fans than the integrity of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."
Silver also said an league probe into Rozier's actions in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Charlotte Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.
"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the gambling firms," he added.
"We then looked into that situation and were very transparent regarding it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.
"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.
"So, we've been cooperating since then. Naturally, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.
"And two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.
"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance here between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
