Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial championship series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.
Behind by two runs, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, placing him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I'd choose in that situation other than him with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, remain the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
The Blue Jays won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
